With the opening games from the end of March in the books, it’s time to turn to the first fully-stocked month of the 2024 MLB season.

For the Toronto Blue Jays, it looks set to be a rather tough time, with Canada’s team facing a bunch of the top presumed frontrunners for the World Series.

Here’s a look at the Blue Jays’ April 2024 schedule and the top series set to truly test Toronto at this very early stage of the campaign.

Toronto Blue Jays April 2024 Calendar

These are all of the MLB series for the Toronto Blue Jays in April this year:

  • April 1-3, at Houston Astros, 3 Games

  • April 5-7, at New York Yankees, 3 Games

  • April 8-10, vs Seattle Mariners, 3 Games

  • April 12-14, vs Colorado Rockies, 3 Games

  • April 15-17, vs New York Yankees, 3 Games

  • April 19-21, at San Diego Padres, 3 Games

  • April 22-25, at Kansas City Royals, 4 Games

  • April 26-28, vs Los Angeles Dodgers, 3 Games

  • April 29 – May 1, vs Kansas City Royals, 3 Games

Of the nine series the Blue Jays will play in April, five are against teams forecast to end with more wins than Toronto, and the Padres were only expected to win three games fewer than the Blue Jays.

So, to say that April’s going to be a tough month in MLB for the Blue Jays would be an understatement.

Toronto Blue Jays at Houston Astros (April 1-3)

The Houston Astros have been imperious in the American League for years and are widely considered to be among the favourites to contend for the World Series once again in 2024.

However, the Astros didn’t exactly enjoy the best start to the new season, getting swept in four games against a resurgent New York Yankees. The Astros weren’t obliterated, but they’ll be looking to make a point in this series.

In recent years, even with the Astros continuing to be among the best teams in baseball, the Blue Jays have amassed a positive record against them, going 4-2 in 2022 and 4-3 in 2023.

Toronto may have flamed out in the ensuing postseasons, but in the regular season, they can boast of their recent record against the Astros. Even so, the odds aren’t siding with the travellers in this one.

The Blue Jays, at 2-2 at the time of writing, are the moneyline underdogs in the MLB odds to take the first game of the series, sitting out at +120.

Regardless of the result, it looks to have the makings of a close game and one that’s fairly reserved on the total runs, which would lean bettors towards under 9.5 on the line.

Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees (April 15-17)

The Blue Jays will meet the Yankees for a three-game series following a day of rest after battling in Houston, but the series that Toronto will be looking to right the ship against New York will be at Rogers Centre.

Rivals in the AL East, even with their struggles last season, the Yankees edged the Blue Jays 6-7. A key part of this record is that Toronto won 4-2 on the road but could only muster two wins from seven home games.

In the season prior, it was much of the same, going 8-11 overall and 3-6 at home. Even with a winning record against the Yankees in 2021 to take the head-to-head 11-8, the 8-2 road record did the bulk of the heavy lifting.

Hoping to rebound from the failures of last season, the Yankees truly laid down the gauntlet by sweeping the Astros, and by the time of this series, they may have even defeated the Blue Jays in their home series.

If their opening series wasn’t a flash in the pan, this series might just prove to be Toronto’s toughest and certainly looks to be the most important of April 2024.

At the start of the month, the Yankees only trailed the Astros in the MLB futures to win the AL, sitting at +425 to the +400 of Houston. Given the road record over recent years, New York should be favoured in this series.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Los Angeles Dodgers (April 26-28)

Last season, the Los Angeles Dodgers put up 100 wins, but only one of those came from their rare home series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Highlighted by Daulton Varsho’s two-run double en route to a 6-3 victory, the Blue Jays went to Dodger Stadium and came away with two wins and one loss.

This season, the Dodgers come to Toronto for the first time since 2016 – when they left with a 2-1 series win.

To stand a chance, the Blue Jays will need to be running hot on the way out of their seven-day clip of away games without a break before returning to Canada and welcoming the Dodgers.

The bumpy start to the season in the Seoul Series aside, Los Angeles looks to be the best team in the league, on paper, having enjoyed a power-packed offseason to make them the likely favourites in just about every game.

Toronto’s April 2024 schedule of MLB play looks to be a tough one. The series against the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers should offer a good measure of where the Blue Jays are at, even at this early stage of the campaign.
